The set will feature more than three hours of unreleased music from Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett and their “friends.” Besides the Bramletts, the band included guitarists Eric Clapton and Dave Mason, bassist Carl Radle, drummer Jim Gordon, organist Bobby Whitlock, Jim Price and Bobby Keys on horns, percussionist Tex Johnson, and vocalist Rita Coolidge and a mysterious friend named Mysterioso (George Harrison)."

Breaking: Mississippi Power will build $2.4B Kemper plant

On May 27, one day after the Mississippi Public Service Commission issued a new order conditionally approving the $2.4 billion Kemper County clean coal plant, Mississippi Power Company announced it would accept the conditions and build the plant.

The Commission passed an order easing the financial restrictions outlined in its April 29 order, namely raising the cost cap to $2.88 billion and agreeing to allow the company to use CWIP — or charge customers for plant financing costs before the facility provides electricity.“After a comprehensive review of (the) order, we have determined the stringent conditions that the commission imposed will still allow us to move forward to finance and construct the plant,” said Tommy Anderson, MPC vice president of generation development, in a statement. “While this was not what was requested, we view this order as one we can accept, and it will allow us to be able to unlock the tremendous value the Kemper County IGCC Project brings to our customers.”

The company had originally asked for a price cap of $3.2 billion and requested that they be able to raise customer rates starting this year. However, CWIP, or Construction Work in Progress, won’t be permitted in rate base until 2012. The plant is scheduled to be operational by 2014.

MPC had also requested that the Commission limit itself to quarterly prudency reviews, which would prevent the Commission from reviewing the project as a whole for cost disallowances after its completion. The Commission said quarterly reviews “would be contrary to the public interest. To determine prudence, the Commission must have sufficient perspective concerning the reasons for particular costs.” The Commission said the prudency review schedule would be determined at a later time.

The House Judiciary Committee's hearing on the controversial Performance Rights Act (H.R. 848), set for March 10 at 10 a.m., will include testimony from Smasking Pumpkins vocalist and lead guitarist Billy Corgan, according to an agenda released by the committee on Friday evening (March 6).

NAB Radio Board Chairman Steve Newberry and Patrick Communications President Larry Patrick will be making broadcast's case against a proposed performance fee, at a hearing by a House panel scheduled for Tuesday. Meanwhile, NABOB is urging the Congressional Black Caucus to oppose the new royalty, saying it could dampen minority ownership. "By making stations even more unaffordable, this legislation would put the dream of ownership further out of the reach for African-American entrepreneurs trying to enter the radio industry," NABOB Executive Director and General Counsel Jim Winston wrote in a letter to the caucus. Dear President Obama:

I have a straightforward question, which I hope you will answer in a straightforward way: Is it your intention to censor talk radio through a variety of contrivances, such as "local content," "diversity of ownership," and "public interest" rules -- all of which are designed to appeal to populist sentiments but, as you know, are the death knell of talk radio and the AM band?

As a former law professor, surely you understand the Bill of Rights.

You have singled me out directly, admonishing members of Congress not to listen to my show. Bill Clinton has since chimed in, complaining about the lack of balance on radio. And a number of members of your party, in and out of Congress, are forming a chorus of advocates for government control over radio content. This is both chilling and ominous.

As a former president of the Harvard Law Review and a professor at the University of Chicago Law School, you are more familiar than most with the purpose of the Bill of Rights: to protect the citizen from the possible excesses of the federal government. The First Amendment says, in part, that "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press." The government is explicitly prohibited from playing a role in refereeing among those who speak or seek to speak. We are, after all, dealing with political speech -- which, as the Framers understood, cannot be left to the government to police.

When I began my national talk show in 1988, no one, including radio industry professionals, thought my syndication would work. There were only about 125 radio stations programming talk. And there were numerous news articles and opinion pieces predicting the fast death of the AM band, which was hemorrhaging audience and revenue to the FM band. Some blamed the lower-fidelity AM signals. But the big issue was broadcast content. It is no accident that the AM band was dying under the so-called Fairness Doctrine, which choked robust debate about important issues because of its onerous attempts at rationing the content of speech.

After the Federal Communications Commission abandoned the Fairness Doctrine in the mid-1980s, Congress passed legislation to reinstitute it. When President Reagan vetoed it, he declared that "This doctrine . . . requires Federal officials to supervise the editorial practices of broadcasters in an effort to ensure that they provide coverage of controversial issues and a reasonable opportunity for the airing of contrasting viewpoints of those issues. This type of content-based regulation by the Federal Government is . . . antagonistic to the freedom of expression guaranteed by the First Amendment. . . . History has shown that the dangers of an overly timid or biased press cannot be averted through bureaucratic regulation, but only through the freedom and competition that the First Amendment sought to guarantee."

Today the number of radio stations programming talk is well over 2,000. In fact, there are thousands of stations that air tens of thousands of programs covering virtually every conceivable topic and in various languages. The explosion of talk radio has created legions of jobs and billions in economic value. Not bad for an industry that only 20 years ago was moribund. Content, content, content, Mr. President, is the reason for the huge turnaround of the past 20 years, not "funding" or "big money," as Mr. Clinton stated. And not only has the AM band been revitalized, but there is competition from other venues, such as Internet and satellite broadcasting. It is not an exaggeration to say that today, more than ever, anyone with a microphone and a computer can broadcast their views. And thousands do.

Mr. President, we both know that this new effort at regulating speech is not about diversity but conformity. It should be rejected. You've said you're against reinstating the Fairness Doctrine, but you've not made it clear where you stand on possible regulatory efforts to impose so-called local content, diversity-of-ownership, and public-interest rules that your FCC could issue.

I do not favor content-based regulation of National Public Radio, newspapers, or broadcast or cable TV networks. I would encourage you not to allow your office to be misused to advance a political vendetta against certain broadcasters whose opinions are not shared by many in your party and ideologically liberal groups such as Acorn, the Center for American Progress, and MoveOn.org. There is no groundswell of support behind this movement. Indeed, there is a groundswell against it.

The fact that the federal government issues broadcast licenses, the original purpose of which was to regulate radio signals, ought not become an excuse to destroy one of the most accessible and popular marketplaces of expression. The AM broadcast spectrum cannot honestly be considered a "scarce" resource. So as the temporary custodian of your office, you should agree that the Constitution is more important than scoring transient political victories, even when couched in the language of public interest.

We in talk radio await your answer. What will it be? Government-imposed censorship disguised as "fairness" and "balance"? Or will the arena of ideas remain a free market?

Alexandria, VA – President Barack Obama took a shot at conservative talk radio king Rush Limbaugh by warning GOP leaders that "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done.” This attack came during a meeting on Capitol Hill held to discuss Pres. Obama’s hefty $1 trillion stimulus package. One White House official attempted to cushion the jab by alleging that the President was pointing to the fact that “There are big things that unify Republicans and Democrats” and that “partisan politics” should not get in the way of accomplishing “very important things.”

Why a 'Google Web Drive' Won't Kill Windows, the PC or Anything Else

Rumors of the GDrive, Google's supposed answer to online file storage, are bubbling up again. The fabled GDrive is by far the most clamored-for Google service that, so far anyway, has yet to see the light of day. We've been hearing about a Google Drive online storage solution for years, but lately some tell-tale signs seem to point toward GDrive becoming a reality.

First there was the menu item in Google's Mac version of Picasa — among the sync options is something called "Google Web Drive," which currently does nothing — and now both Google Blogoscoped and Google Operating System, have dug up more evidence pointing toward GDrive's seemingly imminent arrival.

You might be thinking, what's the big deal? Why is TGDaily so excited they want you to throw away your hard drive (recommended only for hyperbolic journalists)?

After all, DropBox and its ilk already offer pretty much what GDrive is rumored to be — it just isn't Google doing the file hosting.

Aside from Google fan boys finally getting what they've been salivating over for years, what advantages would GDrive offer? Well, according to what Google Blogoscoped discovered last week it looks like Google may be planing to slowly turn Google Docs into a web interface for GDrive.

That would mean that, assuming it works like DropBox, in addition to the storage and sync features, you'd get the web-based document editing tools of Google Docs. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, presumably client-side software for Windows and Mac would mean you could work on your documents in traditional desktop apps as well.

Sync clients would also mean that you essentially have a local backup of your documents, making for quick easy access even when there's no network connection.

The advantage of such as scenario is that the PC you're using at the moment becomes increasingly irrelevant — you can always sync all your docs onto any PC for anywhere access to your files. As Gadget Lab points out, that's a huge win for the thriving netbook market, where manufacturers sacrifice drive space to keep costs down.

It's also a win for anyone who uses multiple PCs, since the biggest hassle of having two machines is keeping your files in sync (never mind that tools like Subversion, CVS and rsync worked out most of these problems ages ago).

So what's not to love? Well, for one thing DropBox already does all that (except for the Google Docs integration), but the real issues are the same ones that DropBox faces. There are two essential problems with the whole cloud computing paradigm that no one has really solved.

The first is trust. It's one thing to trust your e-mail to Google, it's another thing to trust the company with the entirety of your digital life. Forget problems of security and privacy, even the basic issue of server downtime leaves many people cold.

The other big issue with online storage is that, for most of us, documents like spreadsheets, word processor files and the other formats that Google Docs understands are not what's taking up the majority of space on our drives. Is the fabled GDrive going to store and sync my 200 or so gigabytes of mp3 files? For free? Somehow I doubt it. What about movies? If you're like most of us GDrive will likely affect only your Documents folder — maybe four or five gigs worth of files, but hardly a substitute for your hard drive. Microsoft's Live Sync service already offers exactly that and it hasn't changed the way we use Windows, nor has it made us throw out our hard drives.

The fabled Google Drive might be handy for those of you who want a better way to sync files to Google Docs, but it probably isn't going to replace the hard drive. TGDaily's fantasy of a network bootable GDrive will be great when fiber optic lines reach our doorsteps, but, in the mean time, most of us have work to do, and unless you want to spend all day booting up, we suggest hanging onto your hard drive. And if you don't feel like waiting for Google to get around to GDrive, there's always DropBox, Windows Live Sync and myriad of other options already available.

NSA Targeted Journalists, Snooped on All U.S. Communications

Just one day after George W. Bush left office, an NSA whistleblower has revealed that the National Security Agency's warrantless surveillance program targeted U.S. journalists, and vacuumed in all domestic communications of Americans, including, faxes, phone calls and network traffic.

Russell Tice, a former NSA analyst, spoke on Wednesday to MSNBC host Keith Olbermann. Tice has acknowledged in the past being one of the anonymous sources that spoke with The New York Times for its 2005 story on the government's warrantless wiretapping program.

After that story was published, President Bush said in a statement that only people in the United States who were talking with terrorists overseas would have been targeted for surveillance.

But Tice says, in truth, the spying involved a dragnet of all communications, confirming what critics have long assumed.

"The National Security Agency had access to all Americans' communications," he said. "Faxes, phone calls and their computer communications. ... They monitored all communications."

I can understand why a second oath of office was given to Obama due to obvious mistakes made on the steps of the Capitol on the first try. This has happened before on two other occasions. My question is why was the Bible was not used when the second oath was adminnistered. Was there not a Bible somewhere in the White House that could have been used? Is there a reason no outside media or pool reporter was not allowed to record or air this version of the oath for the Office of President of The United States?

When I think of the "Fairness Doctrine" being restored I tend to get scared. I took a walk the other day in my small Mississippi town of Louisville and asked people their views on the "Fairness Doctrine" I was not surprised when most of them had no view because they did not know what it was. They all were aware of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. That was a relief as I was starting to feel I was in a foreign country where people have to be careful about what they say about the government.
Let me remind you of Jefferson's famous words

"All men are created equal, they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among these
are life , liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
There is a theme among great leaders and visionaries that we are not to settle for a life lived by default but we are to strive to live our Dreams. I believe we all need to be reminded from time to time, and sometimes more often, to shake things up and go after the life we want. Later that night I received an interesting email and video from someone out of the blue with this to say...

"A Google search on "unalienable rights" led me to your blog. Please forgive my writing you unsolicited. Last year I set to music a few lines from the Declaration of Independence, recorded them with my family's help, added some images, and posted the result.

Kelly Shackelford, president of the Liberty Legal Institute, says Congress could move quickly to outlaw discrimination in hiring based on sexual orientation, even if a school or ministry teaches that homosexuality is sinful. He says ministries also fear that a federal hate crimes law could be used against preachers, and that re-imposition of the "Fairness Doctrine" could require Christian broadcasters to air anti-Christian views.

Mississippi has more registered voters than adults

More than a third of Mississippi counties have more registered voters than residents old enough to cast a ballot, according to an Associated Press analysis.

In addition to providing ammunition for people who say the voting system is vulnerable to fraud, the flabby voting rolls may make it difficult to accurately determine turnout for the Nov. 4 presidential election.

"There is no reason in the world why some of these counties should have more registered voters than they have living, breathing people," Mississippi Senate Elections Committee Chairman Terry Burton said.

Despite the inflated voter rolls, "it's important not to leap to the conclusion that this means there have been many illegitimate voters," said Adam Skaggs, an attorney at the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law. He said the bigger problem _ in Mississippi and across the U.S. _ is that people have not registered at all or don't know they have been purged from the rolls.

In Mississippi, AP's county-by-county analysis compared voter registration figures released Thursday by the Secretary of State's office with Census figures from 2000, which provide the latest and most detailed information for the entire state. Twenty-nine of Mississippi's 82 counties had more registered voters than people of voting age. Alabama has a similar problem _ The Birmingham News found that six of 67 counties there have more registered voters than people of voting age.

Mississippi and Alabama are heavily Republican states expected to choose John McCain over Democrat Barack Obama, though they have U.S. House and Senate races that could be close.

"The opportunity for fraud exists certainly if people are on the rolls that shouldn't be there," Burton said. "If there's one case of fraud, there's one too many." He said people could theoretically vote, then go back and try to pass themselves off as people who have died, though he does not expect that.

In Mississippi, only first-time voters who registered by mail must show identification. Without an ID requirement, election officials must rely on poll workers and voters to be honest.

In five Mississippi counties with inflated rolls, the discrepancy can be explained by rapid population growth. In the rest, the population has grown slowly or remained stagnant.
Larry Gardner, chairman of the Election Commissioners Association of Mississippi, attributed some inflated voter rolls to commissioners who "are not doing their job."

Gardner said in some counties, personality conflicts have led to power struggles between the circuit clerk and election commissioners. The circuit clerk, the county's chief elections officer, is supposed to help election commissioners purge the voter rolls. Gardner said some clerks have blocked commissioners from using county computers.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann's office compiled its own list of 24 counties with more registered voters than people of voting age. All are also on AP's list. Hosemann said his staff has been working with election commissioners, showing them, for example, how to check Health Department records so they can purge dead voters' names.

But because of Mississippi's history of trying to suppress minority voting decades ago, the U.S. Justice Department must clear any changes in election laws or procedures. Some commissioners say they're reluctant to purge names because they don't want to run afoul of the department.

In the Jackson suburb of Madison County earlier this year, election commissioner Sue Sautermeister put more than 10,000 names on a list of inactive voters, a step short of purging. After complaints from other county and state officials, Hosemann's office restored them.

I am from MS and know what these storms can do. Thankfully the loss of life is a lot lower with 'Ike' than from 'Katrina' and other storms. Many shoreline communities of Galveston, Texas were wiped from the map by the winds, storm surge and the walls of debris pushed along by Ike - though Galveston was spared the level of disaster it suffered in 1900.

The Constitution is the supreme law in the United States . No judge or other governmental body, not even the Supreme Court, may override it in any circumstance!

We know that Obama refuses to release his birth certificate, and for some reason it is not on file in Hawaii , so this is interesting. Is Obama Legally Eligible to Serve as President?

Here's something for you to ponder. This came from a USNA alumnus and it'll be interesting to see how the media handles this.

Barack Obama is not a legal U.S. natural-born citizen, according to the law on the books at the time of his birth, which falls between December 24, 1952, to November 13, 1986. Federal Law states that the office of President requires a person be a natural-born citizen, if the child was not born to two U.S. citizen parents. This is what exempts John McCain, though he was born in the US Panama Canal Zone .

US Law very clearly states: '. . . if only one parent is a U.S. Citizen at the time of one's birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for a minimum of ten years, five of which must be after the age of 16. Barack Obama's father was not a U.S. Citizen. Obama's mother was only 18 when Obama was born. This means even though she had been a U.S. Citizen for 10 years, (or citizen of Hawaii being a territory), his mother fails the test for at-least-5-years-prior-to Barack Obama's birth, but-after-age-16. In essence, Mother alone is not old enough to qualify her son for automatic U.S. Citizenship. At most, 2 years elapsed from his mother turning 16 to the time of Barack Obama's birth when she was 18. His mother would have needed to have been 16 + 5 = 21 years old at the time of Barack Obama's birth for him to be a natural-born citizen.

The Constitution clearly declares: Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President. Though Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at age 10, any other information does not matter because his mother is the one who must fulfill the requirement to be a U.S. Citzen for 10 years prior to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5 of those years being after age 16.

Further, Obama may have had to have remained in the USA for some time frame to protect any citizenship he might have had, rather than living in Indonesia . This is very clear cut and a glaring violation of U.S. Election law. I think that Governor Schwarzenegger of California would be very interested in discovering if Obama is allowed to be elected Presidentwithout being a natural-born U.S. Citizen, since this would set a precedent.

The next picture was taken from the third story balcony of Saint Stanislaus College located next door to Our Lady of the Gulf church in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi on the morning of August 29th, 2005.
This is believed to be the initial wave (tidal?) of Hurricane Katrina. The wave was approximately 35 to 40 feet high. When it slammed into the beachfront communities of Bay Saint Louis and Waveland, it completely destroyed 99% of every structure along the beach for 9 miles and more than a mile inland. But the destruction only started there. The flooding which continued inland destroyed all but 3 5 homes in these two communities of approximately 14,000 people.

It almost looks like a mountain.The force behind it would have the same impact of one

The fact that we were able to convince management to make the change is somewhat of a miracle and a fortunate "quirk"--consider that this was Jackson, Mississippi (of all places) during a politically and culturally repressive period (1968) and that the ownership of the station was, in a word, conservative. But regardless of all that, the new format was put in place, and WJDX-fm became one of the first stations of its kind, not only in the South, but in the entire country!

Why is Gizmo spamming my contact list?

I have some issues with the Gizmo5 project and the way it handles my AIM, MSN, Yahoo, & Google Talk contacts. I am running GrandCentral and only needed the sipphone features from the Gizmo Project.
I don't necessarily want Gizmo to e-mail everyone on my contact list in Yahoo and invite them to join. I don't like spam and most of my friends don't like it either. How do you keep Gizmo from doing this?

It only took a few minutes for the program to add all of my contacts and now it is going to take hours to get them off. I feel like all of my contacts have been hijacked by the Gizmo5 Project
How do I stop Gizmo from logging into to other chat networks.
If you would like to stop Gizmo from logging into your other accounts on MSN, Yahoo, and AOL/AIM removing the contacts will not work. The way to do this is open the start a chat session with the contact "Add AIM, MSN, Y! buddies." SELECT option 3 then 6

To properly remove contacts you imported from another network, you will need to "unregister" those contacts. Simply deleting contacts from other networks may delete those contacts from your buddy list on the other network, for example your AIM or MSN buddy list.

A petition has been created to be considered by the California Parole Board at the upcoming hearing of drumming legend Jim Gordon.

Despite being diagnosed as an acute paranoid schizophrenic by five separate psychiatrists, he was sentenced to 16 years to life in 1984.

The judge agreed at sentencing that the Mr. Gordon was "suffering from a profound mental illness," but was unable to find him not guilty by reason of insanity due to the State of California's tightening of the legal definition a couple of years earlier (in reaction to the notorious "Twinkie defense," (by the way).

This petition is completely legitimate – It has already been signed not only by fans, but by several of Jim Gordon's contemporaries. In addition, many of the living legends that he has worked with have written letters for the Board's consideration.

Obviously the ruling will be based several factors such as medical evaluations, but the petition is intended to show the Board the degree of support that still exists for this brilliant musician and songwriter.

The author will also forward a copy to Jim Gordon himself to assure him that he has by no means been forgotten.

The O.J. Simpson media circus has started again with his arrest for armed robbery, conspiracy, and other charges
In Las Vegas today. I hope the news channels will not spin this story 24/7. Maybe this time he will do some time for the crime. Remember that a person is innocent until proven guilty…..How much proof is needed to put this guy away. This is the time for a speedy trial and conviction by judge or jury. An armed robbery in Vegas should carry some time. I know it does in most cities. Will the plea bargain win out over justice again?

Wow! That was my reaction on reading this Easter letter written by the chair of our congregation’s board of deacons. I knew immediately I had to share it with all of you. Hear his prayer … and, if you will, make it your own!

This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of laborers, the genius of scientists, the hope of its children.” Dwight D. Eisenhower, five-star general and the thirty-fourth president of the United States.

Religious people seldom have difficulty finding a scriptural basis for engaging in conflict. The Old Testament is a history of nations in conflict, and God was on the side of the faithful. The lesson of our Savior, however, is to bridge differences, to trample prejudices, and to bury animosities. To the surprise of most everyone, Jesus came not to lead his people in war, but as the Prince of Peace. Jesus died on a cross, not to defeat the Romans, but to bring the Kingdom of God.

As spring awakens the earth, let us be prayful and courageous. Let us pray that our eyes be opened. Let us see the world as it is and as it yearns to be. Let us pray for understanding, reconciliation, and the end of animosities, some of which have lasted for hundreds of years. Let us pray for ourselves. Let us pray for our neighbors and our enemies. NFL's lawyers sack church's game plan | IndyStar.com: "The NFL is telling Fall Creek Baptist Church in Indianapolis that the church's plans to use a wall projector to show the game at a party for church members and guests would violate copyright laws.
NFL officials spotted a promotion of Fall Creek's 'Super Bowl Bash' on the church Web site last week and sent pastor John D. Newland a letter -- via FedEx overnight -- demanding the party be canceled.
Initially, the league objected to the church's plan to charge partygoers a fee to attend and that the church used the license-protected words 'Super Bowl' in its promotions.
Newland told the NFL his church would not charge partygoers -- the fee had been intended only to pay for snacks -- and that it would drop the use of the forbidden words.
But the NFL wouldn't bite. It objected to the church's plans to use a projector to show the game on what effectively was a 12-foot-wide screen. It said the law limits the church to one TV no bigger than 55 inches"

For groups that want to host Super Bowl parties -- other than sports bars and businesses that normally show televised sports -- here are rules the NFL says must be followed:

• No admission fees (even to pay for snacks).

• Only one television (55 inches or smaller).

• No use of the words "Super Bowl" in promotional materials.

• No exhibition of the game in connection with events "that promote a message."

A friend sent me this and I just had to share it!!

I was blown away by these mind-boggling statistics on Wal-Mart!

1. At Wal-Mart, Americans spend $36,000,000 every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private employer.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the World.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, and keep in mind they did this in only 15 years.

8. During this same period, 31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy (including Winn-Dixie). 9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are SuperCenters; This is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago.

11. This year, 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at a Wal-Mart store.(Earth's population is approximately 6.5 billion).

12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.

Walmart, although a great success story of business that has brought cheaper goods to our homes, is also a symbol of America's decline. Walmart does not make anything. It only sells items that are made in China. Walmart as our number one employer when at one time companies like General Motors, Bethlehem Steel and Westinghouse were our major employers. This shift shows that jobs have left our country for China. Look what is happening to General Motors and Ford. Americans now work for low paying Walmart jobs when their parents worked for high paying union jobs at industrial manufacturing companies that are now in China.
