'War of the Worlds' broadcast, 1938 tonight @ 11:00 PM

Orson Welles directed, produced and narrated the program with his Mercury Theater group during their 'Mercury Theatre on the Air' show. The broadcast of 'War of the Worlds' coincided with the broadcast of the more popular radio show 'The Chase and Sanborn Hour' on NBC. Listeners of 'The Chase and Sanborn Hour' tuned into 'The War of the Worlds' during a commercial break, and, because 'War of the Worlds' was presented like an actual radio broadcast, took it as a live reporting of real events.

A Tribute to Lou Reed .. March 2, 1942 - October 28, 2013

 

Lou Reed, who took rock 'n' roll into dark corners as a songwriter, vocalist and guitarist for the Velvet Underground and as a solo artist, died Sunday. He was 71.
