The Endless River is the fifteenth studio album by British progressive rock band Pink Floyd. Produced by David Gilmour, Youth, Andy Jackson and Phil Manzanera, the album was released by Parlophone and Columbia Records respectively in Friday-release countries on 7 November 2014 and will be released in the United Kingdom on 10 November 2014. It is Pink Floyd's first studio album since the death of keyboardist and founding member Richard Wright, who appears posthumously, and the third by the Gilmour-led Pink Floyd after Roger Waters' departure in 1985. It is the first Pink Floyd album distributed by Parlophone and Warner Bros. Records following the purchase of EMI and its assets by the Universal Music Group in 2012, their transfer to Parlophone and the purchase of Parlophone by Warner Bros. in 2013.

The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale is an album by Eric Clapton & Friends and it is dedicated to his former collaborator JJ Cale. It was named after his 1972 single "Call Me the Breeze". It was produced by Clapton and Simon Climie.

In the early Seventies, after the implosions of Cream and Blind Faith, Eric Clapton found profound influence in the California grooves of reclusive songwriter JJ Cale – who supplied Clapton with two of his biggest solo hits ("After Midnight" and "Cocaine"). Clapton repaid his debt to Cale once with their 2006 collaboration, The Road to Escondido, and he takes that idea a step further with this tribute album, conceived at Cale's funeral last year. Clapton's renditions can be a little too faithful: He nails Cale's throaty growl on "Cajun Moon," but the track fades out just as it might have opened up into a Dead-style jam; "Lies," sung with John Mayer, could have benefited from the charismatic delivery of a vet like Dr. John or Leon Russell. The best moments break free from the restraints of Cale's writing. Tom Petty delivers "Rock and Roll Records" with wry swagger, and Mark Knopfler puts his stamp on "Train to Nowhere" with gloomy Strat acrobatics. And just like one of Clapton's Crossroads fests, The Breeze heats up toward the end. Willie Nelson adds a spiritual intensity to "Starbound" – and, best of all, Don White, from Cale's native Tulsa, Oklahoma, howls the Burrito Brothers-style stomper "I'll Be There," grooving like a high-noon drive through the Baja desert.

Legendary soul singer Bobby Womack died Friday.

Womack was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 .Womack, whose career spanned more than 50 years, wrote and performed hits such as "That's the Way I feel About Cha" and "Across 110th Street."  He also wrote The Rolling Stones' first UK No. 1 hit, "It's All Over Now."

In 2012, Womack began a career renaissance with the release of The Bravest Man in the Universe, his first album in more than 10 years. Produced by Damon Albarn and XL's Richard Russell, the album made Rolling Stone's 50 Best Albums of 2012 alongside numerous other critical accolades.

Elvis Presley - ‘The Stax Sessions’ 1973 - Handpicked

When Elvis entered the Soulsville, USA studios, Stax was riding high thanks to Isaac Hayes’ “Theme from Shaft”. The July 1973 sessions don’t reveal the turmoil that plagued them.  The singer’s team was frustrated by the limitations of Stax’s 8-track recording console at a period when other studios had already switched to 16-track.  In addition, Stax didn’t boast much in the way of an isolation area, and the in-studio headsets all shared the same mix, making it difficult for the crack musicians to hear themselves.  Still, Elvis soldiered on with his band – James Burton and Ronnie Tutt from the road, plus many of the American Sound players and a full complement of nine background vocalists – through the evening of July 23, scheduled to be the last.  Elvis had nailed his vocals, and agreed to return the following night.  On July 24, Burton, Tutt, Reggie Young and Tommy Cogbill couldn’t make it, so they were replaced by Stax’s house band members Donald “Duck” Dunn (bass) and Al Jackson, Jr. (drums) plus Bobby Manuel, a protégé of Steve Cropper’s, and Johnny Christopher on guitars.  This would prove the only time during the Stax sessions that the label’s personnel played key roles.  After eleven takes of Les Reed and Barry Mason’s “Girl of Mine,” Elvis realized that his personal microphone had been stolen during the day.  He departed, not to return.

 

Elvis didn’t return to McLemore Avenue until December.  When he re-entered the Stax studio, it was with RCA’s 16-track mobile unit and a new band anchored, again, by Burton and Tutt.  Norbert Putnam and David Briggs of Muscle Shoals were also part of this new line-up.  Again, the material chosen was from a variety of sources.

Recording between December 10 and 16, Elvis drew on the catalogues of singer-songwriters from the folk (Tom Jans, Danny O’Keefe) and country (Jerry Reed, Larry Gatlin, Waylon Jennings) worlds.  Dennis Linde, of “Burning Love” fame, returned to the fold.  A Chuck Berry tune took a spot alongside some big European numbers, and Elvis even tapped the songbook of Boudleaux and Felice Bryant of “Bye Bye Love” and “Love Hurts” fame.

 George Harrison, (25 February 1943 – 29 November 2001) released several best-selling singles and albums as a solo performer, and in 1988 co-founded the platinum-selling supergroup the Traveling Wilburys. A prolific recording artist, he was featured as a guest guitarist on tracks by Badfinger, Ronnie Wood and Billy Preston, and collaborated on songs and music with Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and Tom Petty, among others. Rolling Stone magazine ranked him number 11 in their list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".

Deltamusic presents ‘Genesis’ Handpicked tonight

Delaney & Bonnie were a musical duo composed of husband-and-wife singer/songwriters Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett. They also fronted a rock/soul ensemble called Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, whose members at different times included Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, George Harrison, Leon Russell, Bobby Whitlock, Dave Mason, Rita Coolidge, King Curtis, and Eric Clapton.

In 1971, following the success of Delaney & Bonnie's Atco albums, GNP Crescendo Records dusted off some old Delaney & Bonnie recordings they had from the 60s, and put them out as an album called Genesis. The idea of course was for it to be presented as an essential 'lost' first album from the duo, but that's not actually the truth. Only three of the songs actually featured Bonnie, and the rest were essentially solo Delaney Bramlett recordings. Most of these came from a number of singles he had released back in 1964 which had not gone anywhere. These saw him moving around through a variety of 60s pop styles, including folk-rock, Jerry Lee Lewis style rock & roll, and a passable Roy Orbison imitation. Obviously it wasn't until he got together with Bonnie that he really found his style - the highlight of the album was their upbeat take on "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" (produced by his friend Leon Russell). Other interesting covers included "What The World Needs Now", "Heartbreak Hotel" and "I Got A Woman".
